Swansea defender Alfie Mawson has been ruled out of the World Cup after having surgery on a long-standing knee problem.
The 24-year-old centre back has yet to make his England debut but received a first senior call-up from Gareth Southgate for the friendlies with Netherlands and Italy in March.

His World Cup dream is over after he went under the knife on Monday but the defender is expected to be fit for the start of next season.
The 24-year-old, who has represented England at Under-21 level, played in every one of Swansea’s Premier League matches this season.
He moved to the Liberty Stadium for £5million from Barnsley in 2016 and this season made 44 appearances, scoring three goals and picking up one assist.
