ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – Elmira-native Molly Huddle won her fourth-consecutive U.S. title in the 10,000 meters on Thursday.
The race was part of the USA Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. The former Elmira-Notre Dame star finished the 25-lap race in 31 minutes, 52.32 seconds.
Huddle got the lead early, and used a strong final lap to pull away from the eventual runner-up Marielle Hall. Huddle has added to her local-legend lore, winning her 27th national championship when including road races.
This was Huddle’s seventh outdoor championship in her career. She had expressed some uncertainty prior to the race about how well she would perform due to limited practice time. Huddle put those doubts to rest with another championship-winning performance.
